This pleasant stretch of rock-studded beach is known as Kappakkadavu locally. To the tourist it is one of the most charming of Kerala's beaches. Kappad finds mention in history and geography texts as the gateway to the Malabar Coast. Here, 501 years ago, 170 men led by the Portuguese navigator Vasco da Gama (1460-1524) sailed in and stepped into Kerala to create a new chapter in history; the story of a long and tumultuous socio-political relationship between India and Europe. A little stone monument is left at the Kappad beach to speak of its great historic importance. On the rocks nearby is a temple believed to be 800 years old. The white sandy beach attracts lots of tourists.

Kappad Beach
The rock-studded beach is locally known as Kappakadavu. An interesting feature of the landscape is the rock that protrudes into the blue sea. The beach is a popular destination for picnickers and tourists who come here to enjoy the unspoilt beauty of the beach. The sunsets here are also said to be a popular must see. One can also visit the fishing hamlets nearby.

Devi Temple
On the rocks nearby, there exists an ancient, 800 year old temple, which attracts a lot of devotees. You can walk up to an ancient 800-year old Devi temple that is situated atop a rock on the beach.

Boat Ride
To the tourist, this little seafaring town is a haven. The best thing to do at Kappad is a boat ride on the backwaters. Unspoilt and uncrowded, the picturesque backwaters of Kozhikode offer a bewitching experience. A ride down the backwaters through the Korappuzha river brings you to the beach.

Walk on the Beach
The white sand pristine beach is an ideal evening picnic spot. The Kerala Tourism department has completed its tourist facilitation center here.

Try Ayurveda
Kappad is also known for its Ayurvedic health holiday facilities. People can enjoy ayurvedic massages and herbal treatments here.
