The 10 kilometer long Cherai Beach is the best golden beach of Kerala and is rightly called "The Princess of the Arabian sea". Cherai beach is the perfect destination for those seeking a beach experience that does not include crowds and vendors. Located on one end of Vypeen island in Cochin district, around 26 km from Cochin(Ernakulam), Cherai has the added advantage of being flanked by the golden sands of the beach on one side and the palm fringed backwaters on the other. Although only accessible by boat in the past, now with an improved road system this place has become a popular getaway from the city. The newly beautified main beach with the walkway adds to the charm and the High mast lamp makes the beach enjoyable even at night. Cherai beach is well known for its mouth-lingering fresh sea food. The sea is usually calm and the beach is a swimmer's paradise.

Backwaters
The backwaters are a combination of lakes, lagoons, canals & estuaries; you can have the unique experience of catching fish, prawns, lobsters, crabs etc. using the traditional fishing methods. Get into a country boat and barge your way through the gentle river, which has crystal clear cold water, along the palm fringed backwaters and paddy fields, absorbing the beauty of Kerala villages. Wet yourself on Beach
The golden sand beach is ideal for bathing, but always checks the tide movements before entering the sea. The newly built walkway adds feather to this beach.

Country boat Ride
Cruise through the backwaters of Cherai to see country boats ferrying paddy or fish, fishermen casting the day's catch, reapers singing in the fields, agile men climbing on coconut palms, toddy tapper tapping toddy (fermented coconut water) from the coconut tree, children splashing water, storks walking and looking for their prey in the paddy fields, the kingfisher diving in for fish and the twitter of birds.
